pOstoPERATive Ecgs (OPERATE)

The surface electrocardiogram (ECG) is a commonly used diagnostic tool for cardiac arrhythmias. With the rise of artificial intelligence in health care, there is renewed interest in continuous ECG registrations to discover novel ECG markers predictive of cardiovascular disease.

Cardiac arrhythmias after cardiac surgery occur frequently (>30%), even in patients who did not have a history of arrhythmias. These post-operative arrhythmias are associated with complications such as stroke and even increased mortality. Early detection and treatment of arrhythmias is therefore essential. At present, we cannot identify patients at risk for arrhythmias and early detection of arrhythmias and effective management is thus essential.

The OPERATE biobank contains pOstoPERATive Ecgs continuously recorded after cardiac surgery obtained from over 3,000 adult and pediatric patients undergoing cardiac surgery for various cardiovascular diseases, including coronary-, valvular-, congenital- heart diseases and cardiomyopathies. Patients are added to this database on a daily base.
