Haga Hospital cardiologist’s PhD leads to international symposium on leadless pacemakers
👥 This week, Dr. Shmaila Saleem-Talib earned her PhD for her research on leadless pacemakers. To mark the occasion, she organized The Hague Pacing Summit 2026, where cardiologists from around the world came together to share knowledge and experiences.
📕 Her research shows that leadless pacemakers result in up to 50% fewer complications. The procedure is less painful, takes less time, and causes less discomfort for patients than the traditional pacemaker, which is implanted under the skin. As a result, Saleem-Talib has been invited to co-author the European guidelines for this new form of pacemaker care.
During the symposium, experts from the Netherlands and abroad discussed the latest technologies and the future of pacemakers, focusing on better synchronization with the heart’s natural rhythm, fewer leads in the body, and faster patient recovery.
🔛 The meeting made one thing clear: leadless pacemakers are the future, and collaboration and innovation are essential to achieving this.
