Dr. Robert van den Berg earned a Master's degree in Neuroscience and completed his PhD at Erasmus University Rotterdam and Utrecht University, using superresolution microscopy to study intracellular transport in neurons. Following his PhD, he completed medical school and a residency in Neurology. Since 2022, he works as a neurologist at the Erasmus MC with a focus on clinical neurophysiology and epilepsy care. Driven by curiosity to explore the working of the brain and use these insights to improve patient care, he combines his clinical work with an academic position as assistant professor. He started his own research group, using signal analysis and machine learning techniques to identify new electrophysiological biomarkers in recordings of brain activity. This approach has led to new models and algorithms used for diagnosis, prognosis, and monitoring of patients with neurological disorders.
